The RES-H Policy project aimed to assist Member State governments in preparing for the implementation of the RES Directive2009/28/EC, as far as RES Heating and Cooling related aspects are concerned. The participating Member States have been assisted in setting up national sector specific 2020/2030 RES-H/C targets. Moreover the project initiated participatory National Policy Processes in which selected policy options to support RES-H/C have been qualitatively and quantitatively assessed.
This resulted in tailor made policy options and recommendations on how to best design a support framework for increased RES-H/C penetration in the national heating and cooling markets of some selected Member States (Austria, Greece, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, United Kingdom).
These countries were selected as they represent a variety in regard of the framework conditions for RES-H/C. On the European level a profound assessment of options for coordinating and harmonising national policy approaches will result in common design criteria for a general European framework for RES-H/C policies, as well as an overview of costs and benefits of different harmonised strategies.
